Week 3: Jamestown, Air, Jesus Saves, Money and the 5W's

Another good week of school! Each week we seem to be getting more and more comfortable with homeschooling. This week Dario made his JESUS poster/sun catcher with my mom.
We enjoyed learning about Jamestown this week. We worked on the Jamestown Mini Lapbook each day

and read several books about Jamestown and Pocahontas. We also got out the Lincoln Logs and built our version of Jamestown! I even found and bought Toobs of Jamestown and Powhatan Indian figures for Dario to use. He made me proud Friday afternoon when I heard him playing and telling the men of Jamestown, "If you don't work, you don't eat!"

We saved our science lessons to do on Friday. We did the "upside-down trick",

but weren't able to do the "heavy newspaper" experiment since we didn't have any newspaper, so I had to improvise and use an experiment from another book we had on hand. It was an "air lift" experiment (lifting a pile of books with a balloon) that worked really well! No pictures though, as the batteries died when we were getting started with science. I need to stock up!

We also focused on the 5W's in our writing (who, what, when, where, and why), and counting money in math. Here he is practicing counting dollar bills, dimes, and pennies.

All in all, a very productive week. Looking forward to all the extras we have planned for this upcoming week! I think Dario will really enjoy learning more about the Native Americans and studying the solar system.
